We Meet "Baby Sister" in One Week!!!

OMGoodness...I can't believe we are leaving for Guatemala on Saturday and we get to meet "Baby Sister" on Tuesday!!! I can't wait to hold her in my arms and snuggle her!!! I also can't wait to kiss her chubby cheeks and squeeze her chubby thighs!!!

I am sooooooooo excited about our trip I can hardly stand it!!! I have been waiting for this trip for so long! This adoption has been such an emotional roller coaster...much more difficult than my pregnancy with Benjamin and I didn't even enjoy that...if that tells you anything about how fun this is!!! All I know is that all of this waiting will be worth it in the end! I'm so looking forward to meeting her, but will be so sad when I have to give her back...:( I hope Mr. PGN (the man signing off on cases) has his pen handy to sign ours SOON!!!

The last few weeks leading up to our trip have been "eventful"...Benjamin started out with a bad cold about 2 weeks ago, then gave it to me, and now has Hand, Foot and Mouth. YIKES!!! We all need to get well and get well quickly!!! He has been miserable for the past 4 days, but I think he's on the mend. He can't wait to meet "Baby Sister"! He talks about her all the time. The cutest thing he said recently is "I need to give her all the kisses so she will have them until we come back to get her." He's going to be such a GREAT big brother!!!

Well...enough for now...I might write more before we leave, but maybe not...I still have tons of packing to do!!! If not...talk to you all when we get back!!!

New pictures!!!

Here is another of our updated pictures. I was so excited to see her in an outfit that we sent and with her "soft blankie" that Benjamin picked out for her. It's nice to know the packages we sent made it to her!!!

Almost 3 months old!!!

What a NICE surprise...new pictures today!!!
Here is the sweet "Olgita" as she is called by her fostermom. She is getting SO big!!! She definitely won't fit in all of the 0-3M clothes I have packed for her...good thing I'm well prepared with both sizes!!!

Last post for today...I promise!!!

Well...hope you all enjoyed being caught up on our journey to "Baby Sister". Some of you might wonder...why do you refer to her as "Baby Sister"...doesn't she have a name??? Well...not yet!!! We haven't officially decided what her name will be, so until then..."Baby Sister" it is!!!

Can't wait to post updated pictures that we take ourselves when we are there to visit!! I hope she's ready for a modeling session...I have way too many cute outfits!!!

A Face Only a Mother Could Love :)

A Face Only a Mother Could Love :)
I took one look at this photo and thought...I need to give someone at the Dr.'s office a lesson in adoption photography!!! We only get updated pictures once a month and live for them, so I was a little disappointed when I looked and thought...couldn't they have taken another one where she was smiling??? I was quickly brought back to my senses when Benjamin saw it and said "Mama, she just needs a kiss!" Oh my, out of the mouths of babes!!! If we all could be as sweet and innocent as he is...what a wonderful place this world would be!!!

2 Month Appt.

"Baby Sister" at her 2 month Dr.'s appt. She gained another 2 lbs. this month, bringing her up to 9lbs. 10oz.!!! What a little chunk!!! I just LOVE chubby babies!!! As most of you know...Benjamin was a chubby one, too!!!

Crying for her Benjamin

Also taken at 6 weeks...when Benjamin saw this picture he said "She's crying because she wants to see me!". He then proceeded to say..."I think she's crying because she wants to see her mama!" Oh he is just TOO SWEET!!! He loves his baby sister and can't wait to meet her!!!

Another at 6 weeks...

This was the first picture we ever saw of "Baby Sister". She was 3 days old. Isn't she sweet??? I love her chubby cheeks!!!

We are going to visit in 11 days!!!

YIKES...11 days from now, we will be on a plane to Guatemala!!! I can't wait!!! I'm nervous, excited, anxious, you name it!!! We are going as a family and my dad is coming with us! I'm sure we're all in for some culture shock! I just pray that we will have a safe trip, with no illnesses, etc... I almost have "Baby Sister" totally packed (a suitcase and a bag), so now I need to start working on the rest of us!!!

Our Journey in a Nutshell!!!

Well...this blog is long overdue...I should have started it back at the beginning of the year when we first decided that we were going to adopt. Since I've procrastinated this long...I'll have to give you the update on our lives in a quick nutshell.

Back at the beginning of the year, Joe and I really prayed about what God's plan was for our lives and for making our family larger. We always knew we didn't want Benjamin to be an only child, but weren't sure when or how God would bless us with another child. Ever since I went on a mission trip to Brazil in 2002, we knew we would adopt, but we just weren't sure when. After much prayer...we decided to officially begin the process in February of this year.

We signed with an agency to do our homestudy on 2/6/06 (interview us and make sure our home was ready for another little one) and also an adoption agency in South Carolina. People often ask..."Why Palmetto Hope?"...my reply is...I did a ton of research on agencies and really felt this was the agency for us.

After our homestudy was completed...we waited for our I-171H which is a simple piece of paper that says we can bring an orphan into the country. This was a HUGE step for us, because we couldn't get a referral of a baby without it. The Detroit office is known for being slow, so after what it seemed like waiting forever...we were so PLEASANTLY surprised that we received it on May 11, 2006!!!

We were now totally paper ready...our homestudy was finished, we had our I-171-H and our dossier (ton of paperwork that needs to be done specifically to adopt from Guatemala) was finished. We were just waiting for a referral (picture, information, medical update)...to see who our baby girl would be. Again...we waited...2 weeks and 1 day...until we got the CALL!!! Our coordinator said..."check your e-mail" and sure enough...pictures of a beautiful baby girl!!!

She was born on May 11, 2006. She weighed 5lbs. 10oz. and was 18.5 inches long. Her birthname is Olga del Transito. She is absolutely adorable!!! When I saw her pictures for the first time...I just couldn't believe that someday she might come home!!! Benjamin looked at them and said "Is this my baby sister?" I said, "Maybe". He said "She's beautiful!!!" He's so sweet!!! He will make such a great big brother!!! Daddy's first reaction was..."She's cute, but she looks grumpy!!!" As we've gotten more updated photos, he thinks she's beautiful, of course! :)

After we accepted the referral...there was more paperwork and more waiting!!! In Guatemala the first thing they do are translate documents and ask for authorization to do a DNA test, to make sure the birthmother and baby match. We waited 6 weeks for that to be done and the results to come back, which were a match!!! We were so excited to find that out, because after DNA was done, we could go visit!!! "Baby Sister" here we come!!!

After DNA we waited for pre-approval from the embassy and we were also waiting to get out of Family Court. We got PA on 7/17/06 and our Family Court interviews were 7/13/06 (they interview the birthmother to make sure this is what she wants to do). We just found out yesterday that we excited Family Court and are onto the last court which is called PGN!!! We entered PGN on August 1, 2006. The approximate wait in PGN used to average 4-6 weeks, but now it is 8-12 weeks and that is without any kickouts (errors that need to be fixed...then you go back to the bottom of the pile). I'm still hoping she'll be home by Christmas!!!
